The Village of Coal City, Illinois Fire & Police Commission is accepting applications for the position of police officer with the Coal City Police Department

Salary: $50,804.49

Population: 5,434

Sworn Police Officers: 13

All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements established by the Village of Coal City, Illinois Fire & Police Commissioners:

  • U.S. citizenship;
  • Must possess a valid driver's license;
  • Must have obtained a high school diploma or high school equivalency/G.E.D.;
  • No felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude, as specified in 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6;
  • Minimum of 21 years of age at the time of application;
  • Must be UNDER 35 years of age at the time of application and at the time the initial eligibility list is posted, unless otherwise exempt by State Statute 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6;
  • Applicants must live within 20 miles of the Coal City, IL Police Department to the city limit of residing town or be willing to relocate within 1 year;
  • $45.00 non-refundable application processing fee;
  • Submit all application documents online by Monday, July 30th, 2018 @ 4:00 PM CST;
  • Attend a mandatory orientation and written test on the morning of Saturday, August 11th, 2018 at the Coal City Middle School.

A maximum of (5) preference points will be awarded as determined by the Village of Coal City for any of the following:

Education: Persons who have successfully obtained an Associate's Degree in the field of law enforcement or criminal justice – OR - a Bachelor's Degree or higher in any field from an accredited college or university (5 points). Copy of degree or transcripts must be submitted with application to qualify.

Military: Persons who were engaged in active military or naval service of the United States for at least 12 months with no record of dishonorable discharge (5 points).  A copy of Form DD-214 or an active military ID must be submitted with application to qualify.

Experience: Persons who have a minimum of 18 months certified full-time Law Enforcement experience or 5 years certified part-time experience (5 points). A copy of state-issued Certification or a notarized letter from the Chief of Police of the department listed must be submitted with application to qualify.

  • Birth certificate
  • Valid driver's license
  • High school diploma or high school equivalency/GED

  • Applications MUST be submitted online by Monday, July 30th, 2018 at 4:00 PM (CST).  Faxed, e-mailed, mailed or dropped off applications will NOT be accepted.
  • Applications submitted after the deadline will NOT be accepted.
