The Village of Huntley, Illinois is accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for the position of police officer with the Huntley Police Department. 

The Village of Huntley is one of the most rapidly expanding communities in Illinois and offers an excellent benefits package including medical insurance, paid vacation, and pension plan.

Starting Salary: $61,040 (as of January 1, 2019) 

Population: 26,632

Sworn Police Officers: 36

All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements established by the Village of Huntley: 

  • U.S. citizenship or permanent legal resident of the United States;  
  • No convictions for felony offenses or crimes of moral turpitude (Note: a misdemeanor or serious traffic offense may also disqualify applicants from further consideration);
  • Possess an Associate's Degree awarded by an accredited college or community college*;
    • *Associate's Degree may be waived if one or more of the following applies: a) Applicant has served for at least 24 months of honorable active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces, b) Applicant has served for 180 days of Honorable active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces in combat duty recognized by the Department of Defense, c) Applicant has a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college, or university, -OR- successfully received credit for a minimum of 60 earned credit hours towards a degree from an accredited college or university;  
  • Possess a valid state-issued driver's license and good driving record;
  • Possess a valid FOID (Firearm Owner Identification Card) at time of appointment;
  • Minimum of 21 years of age -AND-  Be 35 years of age or under at time of application, unless the candidate is exempt from such age limitation as provided in Section 5/10-2.1-6 of the Police Commissioners' Act;
  • Possess a valid Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER) Test Card with an issue date no more than 6 months prior to the application deadline date of September 21, 2018. (Only POWER Test Cards issued between March 21, 2018 and September 21, 2018 will be accepted).
    • POWER Test Cards issued by NIPSTA, Triton College, or Joliet Junior College will be accepted. 
    • Applicants are responsible for registering and any fees necessary to take the POWER Test.

  • Successfully pass an oral interview, polygraph, psychological evaluation, a pre-employment physical and drug screen, and any other examinations deemed necessary by the Village of Huntley;
  • Pay a $25.00 non-refundable application processing fee;
  • There is no residency requirement for the Village of Huntley.
Information regarding the award of preference points as determined by the Village of Huntley: 
  • Education: Persons who have successfully obtained a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university;
  • Law Enforcement Experience: Persons who have been awarded a certificate of successful completion of the Minimum Standards Basic Law Enforcement Training Course (Certified Illinois Police Officer);
  • Military: Persons who were engaged in the military or naval service of the United States for at least one year, and were honorably discharged, -OR- who are now, or may hereafter be on inactive or reserve duty in such military or naval service. A copy of Form DD-214 or equivalent proof of current military service must be submitted.

 

NOTE:  Candidates who are eligible for Education, Law Enforcement Experience, or Veteran's preference points shall make a claim in writing, with proof thereof within ten (10) days after the date of the Initial Eligibility List or such claim is deemed waived.  The form to apply for preference points will be posted on the Village website when the Initial Eligibility List is posted.  The Final Eligibility List which incorporates the preference points in rank order will be established and posted on the Village website.  These candidates will then be eligible to continue to the oral interview segment of the recruiting process.

All applications must be submitted online by Friday, September 21, 2018 at 4:00 PM (CST). Faxed, e-mailed, mailed or dropped off applications will NOT be accepted. Applications submitted after the deadline will NOT be accepted. Only one application per person, per testing cycle will be accepted.
