The Midlothian Fire Department is accepting applications for the position of firefighter/paramedic.
Starting Base Salary: $57,102 which increases to $74,657 after one year. Top salary of $100,553 after 6 years. Paramedic stipend of 2.75% of salary. Next raise 5/1/24 Benefits Include:

All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements established by the Midlothian Fire Department:
- U.S. citizenship;
- Valid driver's license with the ability to obtain a class B non CDL;
- Minimum of 21 years of age and not older than 35 years of age at the time of application (February 20, 2024), unless said applicant has previous experience as a full-time, volunteer, paid-on-call or part-time firefighter as provided in Section 10-1-7 of the Illinois Municipal Code (65ILCS 5/10-1-7);
- Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent;
- Possess a current and valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) and Ariel Ladder Climb Certification dated within one year and due at the time of the conditional offer of employment;
- Possess a valid Paramedic License (EMT-P) issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) - OR - be within one year of graduating from an EMT-P program. Valid EMT-P license or a letter of good standing from the program due at time of application (February 20, 2024). You must possess a valid paramedic license (EMT-P) by the end of the probationary period;
- If not certified, must be able to obtain certification as an Illinois Certified Firefighter II or Basic Operations Firefighter through the Office of the State Fire Marshall within 12 months of employment;
- Sound physical and mental condition;
- Must meet the State of Illinois Vision Standards;
- Must meet the qualification standards established by the Board of Fire and Police Commission in accordance with applicable legal requirements, which will include passing a physical examination, passing polygraph and psychological evaluation.
Submission of Application:
Applications submitted online by Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 4:00 PM (CST) will be accepted. Faxed, e-mailed, mailed or dropped off applications will NOT be accepted. Only one application per person, per testing cycle will be accepted.
Following completion of all application materials and review of minimum qualifications, successful applicants will be invited to participate in remote on-line written exam testing starting at 9 AM on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 through Friday, March 1, 2024 at 4 PM. The test will only be available during this time period. Candidates will need to have access to a laptop or desktop computer. All candidates will receive an email approximately one week prior regarding their status in the process, along with further instructions for taking the on-line written exam. NOTE: Please be sure to check your email spam folder. Many email account providers automatically send our emails there in error (i.e. Google, Yahoo, etc.).
Preference Points will be awarded as determined by the Midlothian Fire Department for the following:
- Military - 5 points. Awarded to applicants who have served a minimum of 12 months on active duty in the service of the U.S. Military and who have either been honorably discharged or, in lieu of an honorable discharge, are still serving in an active or inactive reserve status.
- Part-Time Firefighters for the Village of Midlothian - 1 point for every year of service as a part-time firefighter for the Village of Midlothian, not to exceed 5 points.
- Education - 5 points. Candidates must have an Associate's Degree in Fire Science from an accredited Community or Junior College or a Bachelor's Degree in any field from an accredited College or University.
