The Board of Fire Commissioners is accepting applications to the position of firefighter/paramedic with the Minooka Fire Protection District.

Minooka Fire Protection District is a growing organization with great career opportunities. We respond to emergency medical service, fire suppression, specialized rescue, hazardous materials and water rescue, operating out of two fire stations.

The Fire District is a growing population of approximately 16,500 people within the Village of Minooka, portions of the Village of Channahon and unincorporated areas of Grundy, Kendall and Will County. We protect three miles of I-80, portions of the Illinois River, as well as rail system. The community includes residential, commercial, light and heavy industrial property.  In 2024 the Fire District responded to just over 2,800 calls for service. 

The organizational structure includes one fire chief, one deputy chief, three battalion chiefs, six lieutenants, twenty-two career firefighter/paramedics, five contract firefighter/paramedics, six part-time firefighter/paramedics, twenty-two volunteer recruits and cadets, one fire inspector, one fire & life safety educator, and two administrative assistants. 

The area is a great place to live with excellent elementary schools in Channahon and Minooka, and Minooka Community High School.  There are lots of recreational opportunities with several parks, and bike paths.  The Channahon Park District provides regular programs for adults and children and has a community pool, tennis courts, golf course, indoor basketball courts and pickle ball courts, as well as a fitness center with modern equipment.

The Fire District offers an excellent salary and benefits package. 

2025 starting Salary:      $73,093.00

In addition to salary structure, the Fire District offers longevity pay and educational incentives. The District offers an excellent major medical, dental and vision plan along with retirement employee benefits account and downstate firefighter pension.  

All Applicants Must Meet the Following Minimum Requirements established by the Minooka Fire Protection District:

  • At least 21 years of age and under 35 years of age, unless exempt as noted under state statute (65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.3) at time of application;
  • No felony convictions (Note: Some misdemeanors will disqualify); 
  • Be a U.S. Citizen;
  • Possess a valid driver's license;
  • Have a High school Diploma or GED equivalent; 
  • All applicants given a conditional offer of employment will go through a comprehensive background investigation;
  • APPLICANT MUST POSSESS:
    • ILLINOIS STATE FIRE MARSHAL CERTIFIED FIREFIGHTER II or BASIC OPERATIONS FIREFIGHTER with EMT-B License issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) at time of application

NOTICE:  MUST BE A LICENSED PARAMEDIC AND AN ILLINOIS STATE FIRE MARSHAL CERTIFIED FIREFIGHTER II OR BASIC OPERATIONS FIREFIGHTER AT DATE OF CONDITIONAL OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT AND SUCCESSFULLY TEST INTO THE EMS SYSTEM;

  • Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) card with ladder certification is not required to apply; however, applicant must have a valid CPAT issued within 12 months immediately previous to a conditional offer of employment. (70 ILCS 705/16.06b(f).  Any costs associated with the CPAT and ladder certification will be at the expense of the applicant.  
    • NOTICE: The Board of Fire Commissioners will require proof of subsequent CPAT with ladder certification prior to his or her appointment.  CPAT and Ladder certification must have been completed within one year previous to the date of conditional offer.

 

Preference Points will be awarded by the Minooka Fire Protection District for any one of the following:  1) Experience; 2) Veteran's Status; 3) Education; 4) Residency; and 5) Additional Status.  

 

Submission of Application:  Applications MUST be submitted online by Monday, May 19, 2025 at 4:00 PM (CST).  Faxed, e-mailed, mailed or dropped off applications will NOT be accepted. Applications submitted after the deadline will NOT be accepted. Only one application per person, per testing cycle will be accepted.   

 

Mandatory On-Line Written Exam Testing:  Following completion of all application materials and review of minimum qualifications, successful applicants will be invited to participate in remote on-line written exam testing starting at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 through Friday, May 30, 2025 at 4:00 PM.  The test will only be available during this time period.  Candidates will need to have access to a laptop or desktop computer.  All candidates will receive an email approximately one week prior regarding their status in the process, along with further instructions for taking the on-line written exam. NOTE: Please be sure to check your email spam folder. Many email account providers automatically send our emails there in error (i.e. Google, Yahoo, etc.).   

 
 
Important Disclaimer for Potential Applicants:  As part of this application form, you will be required to submit copies of the following documents as part of your application. Applicants failing to provide the following documentation with their application will be ineligible to continue in the hiring process. 
  • Birth Certificate;
  • High School Diploma (or Transcripts) -OR- GED Equivalent Certificate;

  • Current EMT-B or EMT-P license issued by the IDPH;
  • OSFM Firefighter II (Basic) Certificate;
  • CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) Card and Ladder Climb Certification, if applicable.
